Salesforce.com officially announced today its acquisition of Indian web conferencing company Dimdim for approximately $31 million in cash. It is anticipated that Salesforce.com will integrate DimDim’s features into their SaaS Chatter product.
The DimDim website now allows only existing customers to login, with a note that new registrations are not being accepted. The open source community edition is still available for download from Sourceforge but will no longer be maintained by Salesforce.com. All free accounts are being shut down.
DimDim was (is) a component of the Knowledge Hub (a project I’m deeply involved with) and would have provided a free-to-use conferencing facility for Gov/Local Gov users of theThe Knowledge Hub when it is launched later this year. The full implications to the Knowledge Hub project are being assessed.

An update on my earlier post. PFIKS (KHub developers) have stated that their position on KHub remains the same, i.e. they will continue to implement their agreed plans to deliver web conferencing facilities in KHub using DimDim. This will be achieved using the open source version of DimDim taken on a GPL license. This code is already downloaded and entitles PFIKS to host and integrate DimDim into KHub.
So, the main issues appaers to be for personal accounts – which are no longer supported by the new owners.
Look at GoMeetNow http://www.gomeetnow.com. It provides the same features that DimDim provided at just $12.95 per month.
Hi, Neat post. There’s an issue along with your website in internet explorer, would test this? IE still is the market chief and a good component to other people will miss your great writing due to this problem.
Thanks for the tip-off. I don’t use IE very much, so may have missed a problem. I’ll take a look and see if I can fix it.
